We got 87 surf beaches listed on Magic Seaweed here in New England. Connecticut has none because its on Long Island Sound. There’s no waves on “the sound”. Surfing beaches aren’t generally beaches as most people think of them. No parking, no sandy beach, no facilities, and it may not be easy getting into and out of the water. Here’s the beaches.
Beach Types Explained
- Beach Break – typical sand beach upon which the waves “break”. The hard part is getting through the waves out past the break zone.
- Point Break – an area of land that juts out into the ocean. When coming from the right direction the waves will break on the point and then down the shoreline. Pt. Judith, RI is an example. Here there is a rock cliff.
- Reef Break – a fixed structure of some sort that causes the waves to jack up and then break. Matunuck, RI is an example. Here there are cobblestones about 50 yards from shore.
